The second largest city in Egypt, Alexandria, known as "The Pearl of the Mediterranean", has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern; its ambience and cultural heritage distance it from the rest of the country although it is actually only 225 km. from Cairo. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Alexandria became the capital of Greco-Roman Egypt. Since its foundation Alexandria remained for many centuries a center of cultural radiation in the whole world.
FORT QAITBEY (THE CITADEL OF QAITBEY)
The island of Pharos was a major port having two huge harbors. The Fort was built in the 1480's by Sultan Qaitbey.and it consists of three storeys similar to medieval fortresses in Egypt.
THE MOSQUE OF ABU AL-ABBAS AL-MURSI
this beautiful mosque, with its high minaret and four domes, is Alexandria's largest and one of the most important Islamic monuments. In 1775 the Algerians built the mosque over the tomb of the thirteenth century Andalusan saint Ahmed Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi.

THE ANFUSHI TOMBS
They lie in front of ras el teen entrance.they were discovered in 1901 and date back to the ptolemic era in the third century BC.
These limestone tombs, which date from about 250 BC, are painted to simulate alabaster and marble.
EL MONTAZA PALACE
It was built of Alexandria on a hill and overlooking the most beautiful beach of Alexandria amid about 370 feddans of gardens and woods.comprises of a group of buildings of which the most important are being el haramlek,al salamlek.
THE GREECO ROMAN MUSEUM
It tells the story of the invasion of Egypt by Alexander the great and the building of Alexandria it houses many collection of rare Greek and roman relics and coins, about 40 thousand pieces, dating from 3rd century BC till the 7th.
THE POMPEY’S PILLAR
It is a huge granite pillar, about 27ms high, dates from the third century amidst the remaining relics of the serapium.
THE LIBERARY OF ALEXANDRIA
The ancient library of Alexandria was reconstructed by building the new library at shatby to become one of the greatest cultural and scientific centers specialized in affairs, civilization, literature, science and arts of the area so as to attract scholars from all over the world.
CATACOMBS OF KOM AL SHOQQAFAA
This is the largest roman cemetery. They consist of three levels cut in the rock to a depth of 100 feet. Dating back to the return of 2nd century AD. It is blend of pharaonic and roman art.
AL SHATBY NECROPOLIS
Situated north of saint mark’s collage opposites the sea. It consists of an entrance with corridor linking the front and back burial rooms.
The amphitheater consists of thirteen gray and white marble levels of terraces that lead down to the arena.
Founded by Cleopatra in honor of Mark Antony, it may well be in this temple that Cleopatra committed suicide in 30 BC.
THE ROMAN THEATRE
Over 30 years of excavation have uncovered many Roman remains including this well-preserved theatre with galleries, sections of mosaic-flooring and marble seats for up to 800 spectators. it is a small roman amphitheater recently discovered in the area of kom eldekka near the Greco roman museum. It has 12 rows of semi circular marble seats.
THE TEMPLE OF TAPOSIRIS MAGNA
The temple was built in the Ptolemy era and finished the construction of Alexandria. The temple is located in Abu sir, the western suburb of Alexandria, and is dedicated to Osiris.
THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ALEXANDRIA
The museum was inaugurated on the 1st of September 2003 it is considered one of the most unique museum of the world for the main target behind it’s construction as it narrates a story of a city across different ages from the past and till now. The museum contains 1800 monumental pieces representing Alexander history.
AL ALAMEIN MUSEUM
It includes five main halls representing the countries that participated in al alamein battle. There also maps and charts showing troop deployment.
THE BRITISH CEMETERY
Thousands upon thousands of rock-hewn tombstones stand straight rows a fenced garden.
THE ITALIAN CEMETERY
It is a high tower fort standing on a high hill. The walls of the building are covered with marble.
THE GERMAN CEMETERY
It is fortress-like that was built on a high hill overlooking the sea
WADI EL NATROUN AREA
South east of Alexandria, and is one of the places the holly family passed through it .it is renowned for its four Christian monasteries where monks live; Abu makkar, al baramos, al sprain monasteries.

This multicultural museum lies safely under Alexandria's Mediterranean coastal waters that, during the Fifth Century B.C. formed part of the ancient city of Alexandria and was devastated by earthquakes and tidal erosion
